6 best accounting software for interior firms in India (2026)

The short answer

  • Your CA works in Tally: TallyPrime, with cost centres and job costing for project-wise tracking.
  • You want cloud accounting with projects: Zoho Books (projects and profitability on higher plans).
  • Desktop alternative with TDS on higher plans: BUSY.
  • Small studio, mostly GST invoices from a phone: Vyapar or myBillBook.
  • Project money such as instalments, vendor bills on measured work and approvals: Pakka alongside your accounting, not instead of it.

We make Pakka, and it is on this list. We say where other tools are better, and every fact about them comes from their own websites. Prices change, so we describe pricing models, not figures.

What this software does

Accounting software keeps your books: GST invoices, purchase bills, payments, bank reconciliation, TDS and returns. An interior or design-build firm has extra needs: costs tracked project by project, many vendor bills against one job, client instalments, and advances that must be matched to work done. Most general accounting tools in India handle GST well; fewer handle project-wise costing without workarounds such as cost centres.

How we evaluated

  • GST invoicing and returns. GST invoices, e-invoicing and e-way bills, as stated by the vendor.
  • TDS. Interior firms deduct and have TDS deducted. We only credit a tool where its own pages mention TDS.
  • Project-wise costing. Can you see income and cost by project, through projects, cost centres or job costing?
  • Vendor bills and payments. Purchase bills, payables and vendor ledgers across many small suppliers.
  • Your CA. The best tool is often the one your accountant already uses and can file from.
  • Access. Desktop, cloud, mobile, and how many users can work at once.
  • Pricing model. Free plans, subscriptions or lifetime licences, described without figures.

Desktop accounting most CAs know

The safe choice if your accountant files from it. Strong on GST and books, lighter on site work.

  1. TallyPrime

    Website

Best for: Firms whose CA works in Tally and who want project-wise costs through cost centres

TallyPrime is Indian business management software for accounting, inventory, GST, banking and cash flow, with e-invoicing, e-way bills and WhatsApp integration. Cost centres and job costing let you allocate income and expenses to each project and report on them.

    • Cost centres and job costing for project-wise tracking
    • GST, e-invoicing, e-way bills and connected banking
    • Silver for one user, Gold for several

    Limits

    • Desktop-first; remote access is a separate cloud service
    • Project tracking needs disciplined cost centre entries
    • No site progress, client instalment plans or vendor measurement flow

Pricing: Silver (single user) and Gold (multi-user); lifetime licence or rental

India fit: Indian company; GST, e-invoice, e-way bill; WhatsApp integration

  1. Marg ERP

Project money, alongside your accounting

Not accounting software. A layer for the project money your books do not track well.

  1. Pakka (Money Desk) (that's us)

    pakka.work

Best for: Interior firms whose real leak is project money: instalments, vendor bills and approvals

Pakka is not accounting software and does not replace Tally or Zoho Books. Its Money Desk runs project money: client instalments released by events such as a QC pass or handover, receipts with TDS, vendor bills matched to orders and deliveries, final bills from vendor-countersigned measurements, and an eight-week cash forecast. We make Pakka, so weigh this entry with that in mind.

    Strengths

    • Two-person approval: whoever raises a payment cannot approve it
    • Final vendor bills from countersigned measurements; retention released when snags close
    • Project profit by trade and by room, and firm-wide profitability
    • Tax invoices and proformas, with receipts that settle the right instalment

    Limits

    • Not a ledger: no GST returns, statutory books or filing
    • Accounting integration is limited today, so expect some entries to be made in your accounting software too
    • Prices are not published yet

Pricing: Founding firms: first project free. Per firm and per desk, no seat fees for site teams; prices announced before the waitlist opens.

India fit: Built for Indian interior firms; TDS on receipts; MSME pay-by countdown; GST in proposals

How to choose.

  • Ask your CA firstIf your accountant files from Tally, stay on Tally. Changing accounting software is expensive; changing project tools is easier.
  • Decide how you track projectsTally needs cost centres for each project. Zoho Books has projects on higher plans. Billing apps mostly do not track projects at all.
  • Check TDSInterior firms deal with TDS on both sides. Confirm the plan you buy covers it; BUSY states it on higher plans.
  • Count users and officesSingle-user editions are cheaper, but the accountant, owner and a project manager may all need access.
  • Separate books from project moneyAccounting tells you what happened. Instalments tied to work done, vendor measurements and approvals happen before the entry. Pakka handles that layer; your accounting software keeps the books.

Questions people ask.

Which accounting software is best for an interior design firm in India?

Most firms are best served by what their CA uses, which is often TallyPrime. If you want cloud access and project profitability, Zoho Books is a good fit. Small owner-run studios often start with Vyapar or myBillBook for GST billing.

How do I track profit project by project?

In TallyPrime, create a cost centre for each project and allocate every income and expense to it, or use job costing. In Zoho Books, use projects on the Professional plan or above. Pakka shows project profit by trade and room from its own records.

Is Pakka accounting software?

No. Pakka runs project money: instalments, vendor bills, approvals and cash forecasts. It does not file GST returns or keep statutory books, and its accounting integration is limited today. Use it alongside Tally or Zoho Books.

Do these tools handle GST e-invoicing?

TallyPrime, BUSY, Zoho Books, Vyapar and myBillBook all state e-invoicing and e-way bills. Marg states GST billing and compliance.

Desktop or cloud accounting?

Desktop (Tally, BUSY) suits an office where the accountant sits. Cloud (Zoho Books) suits owners and accountants who work from different places. Tally and BUSY both offer online access as an extra.
