Payment milestone
A payment milestone is a stage of a project at which the client owes the next instalment, such as booking, design sign-off, material order or handover.
In practice
Milestones work best when each one is tied to an event both sides can see happened, rather than a date or a feeling that the work is nearly done.

Client instalments are released by events: acceptance, design complete, phase start, QC pass or handover. Receipts with TDS settle the right instalment on their own.
